Job Opportunity: Director of Conservation at Archbold Expeditions Inc.
Archbold Expeditions Inc. is seeking a dynamic and experienced Director of Conservation. The Director of Conservation leads conservation initiatives across the Archbold organization, linking scientific knowledge and expertise to conservation outcomes that impact the life, lands, and waters, of Florida and beyond. This position involves working with Archbold staff and visiting scientists, building partnerships with stakeholders, supporting conservation, and promoting Archbold’s work through outreach and public engagement.
Key responsibilities include steering science into the four strategic priorities for Archbold’s work (www.archbold-station.org) with a focus on the Florida Wildlife Corridor, collaborating with scientists, policy makers, landowners, and conservation organizations at regional to statewide and national levels, and overseeing land management for the 10,000 acres of Archbold Biological Station. The Director also helps secure funding for cross-cutting internal and partnered conservation and science projects. Candidates with expertise in conservation science, land protection, or conservation partnerships are encouraged to apply. The Director may also contribute up to 20% of his/her time to conservation science research.
We are excited to receive applications from those with an ambitious, creative outlook for all aspects of conservation at Archbold, regionally in the Everglades Headwaters, statewide, and beyond. The position includes flexibility to build and design the Archbold conservation program based on one’s strengths and interests.
The starting salary will be in the range of $70,000 to $100,000 annually but will remain negotiable and commensurate with experience and the final level of appointment.

Archbold is an equal opportunity employer. We take action to ensure equal opportunity for all applicants without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, Veteran status, or other legally protected status. Archbold will not tolerate discrimination or harassment based on any of these characteristics and stands proud of its collaborative culture.
Archbold's mission is to build and share the scientific knowledge needed to protect the life, lands, and waters of Florida, and beyond. Archbold’s footprint encompasses the ancient scrub habitats of the Lake Wales Ridge; the Avon Park Air Force Range Sentinel Landscape; the vast, open ranchlands of Central Florida; and the many waterways that flow south into Lake Okeechobee and then drain to the coasts, touching the lives of millions of Floridians. Archbold studies and protects these natural wonders as ecosystems: as complex networks shaped by measurable natural processes. Our dozens of research sites encompass the pristine sand dunes of the Lake Wales Ridge; the ranchlands and wetlands that make up much of Central Florida; and the rivers that flow south into Lake Okeechobee and beyond.
Today Archbold stewards a rich mosaic of natural habitats, native ecosystems, working lands, and historic buildings at Archbold Biological Station and Buck Island Ranch. The Station and the Ranch serve as the place-based crucible for our innovative science, conservation, and education programs. These draw from a long, deep history, dating back from our beginnings, founded by Richard Archbold in 1941.
